Supporting the Design of the GEF-8 GRID Integrated Program
Supporting WWF in the design and early development of the GEF-8 Greening Transportation Infrastructure Development (GRID) Integrated Program and its Global Platform
Sinfranova has supported the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) in the development of the GEF-8 Greening Transportation Infrastructure Development (GRID) Integrated Program, a global initiative designed to advance transportation infrastructure that safeguards and enhances key coastal, marine, and terrestrial ecosystems.

GRID responds to the growing need to better align infrastructure development with biodiversity conservation, climate resilience, and long-term sustainability. WWF’s Global Platform is designed to coordinate the country's projects while also providing technical assistance and knowledge sharing across the broader program.

With early engagement with key stakeholders – Multilateral Development Banks – beginning at the UN Biodiversity Conference (COP-15) in Montreal in 2022, Sinfranova embarked on a 2-year project to support the development of GRID from its inception through subsequent phases. From December 2022 to June 2023, our team supported the Programmatic Framework and Coordination Project by contributing to the program work plan, strengthening elements of the stakeholder engagement strategy, and helping define the approach for the development of a Global Knowledge Platform in green transportation infrastructure. This early-stage work helped shape the strategic and operational foundations of the program.

From May 2024 to December 2024, Sinfranova continued its collaboration with WWF as Sustainability Infrastructure Expert and Lead Design Consultant for the Global Platform component of the program. In this phase, we provided technical assistance and led the development of the CEO Endorsement Request and supporting annexes, including a Gender Action Plan and a Stakeholder Engagement Plan, helping ensure alignment with Global Environment Facility requirements and the broader objectives of the Integrated Program.

The GRID Integrated Program is led by WWF and brings together a wide range of multilateral development banks and international institutions, such as the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP). The latest published WWF information notes that the Global Platform is intended to provide coordination, technical support, and knowledge exchange for the country child projects being implemented in Malaysia, Nepal, the Philippines, Suriname, and Ukraine.

Across both phases, Sinfranova contributed its expertise in sustainable infrastructure, stakeholder engagement, and program design to support a more integrated and nature-positive approach to transportation infrastructure development. By helping build both the strategic framework and key design documents for GRID, we contributed to a program that aims to improve how infrastructure is planned, so that development outcomes better serve both people and nature.
