Exploring the Role of Conservation Experts in the Development of Sustainable Infrastructure
Infrastructure is well known to be one of the main drivers of biodiversity loss. However, when infrastructure is planned, designed, built, operated, and dismantled appropriately, it can contribute to reducing environmental impacts, as well as conserving, enhancing, and restoring natural ecosystems.Â
Around this idea, The Nature Conservancy asked Sinfranova team members to facilitate a masterclass on how sustainable infrastructure can serve to meet global agreements, including those related to environmental conservation and biodiversity preservation. The 3-hour training targeted a group of 20 conservation experts working in Peru.
Besides providing an overview of key concepts, trends, and global agreements and strategies related to nature conservation, the module explored how alternative approaches to traditional infrastructure integrate environmental considerations along the full lifecycle of projects. The training also identified best practices and infrastructure tools that can help in this challenging but urgently needed endeavor.Â
