On June 3, 2021, coinciding with the United Nations World Bicycle Day, four of our Sinfranova members and supporters biked from Washington, D.C. to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal and the Great Allegheny Passage. Coined as the #PedalingfortheFuture, the ride covered a total distance of 333 miles (535 kilometers).
The group biked to raise funds for Trips for Kids – a philanthropic organization that exposes kids to cycling experiences to “promote recreational lifestyles, environmental awareness, and personal empowerment.” Trips for Kids' mission closely aligns with that of Sinfranova’s: advocating for environmental preservation, accessible mobility, and sustainability.

Our vision in Sinfranova is to provide sustainability solutions to the way in which infrastructure projects –including energy, transportation, water and waste among others– are planned, designed constructed, and operated, creating a more sustainable and resilient world. As Trips for Kids democratizes access to nature and
promotes a more resilient world through sustainable transportation means, it touches on Sinfranova’s core values.
The bike ride for the #PedalingfortheFuture campaign took five days to complete. Our CEO & Founder, Cristina Contreras, described her time on the trail as “an incredible opportunity to connect back with nature while raising awareness on the importance of environmental preservation and social justice.” As the group crossed paths with fellow bikers from all walks of life during the campaign, they realized one particular stood out: a shared passion for the outdoors.
The entirety of the funds raised – a total of $2,027 – were utilized to refurbish 13 second-hand bikes for the organization with each refurbished bike costing around $150. Trips for Kids fixes bikes that would otherwise end up in landfills. Decreasing waste and providing a second life to these bikes, Trips for Kids’ practices underscore the importance of sustainability while educating the youth on an active lifestyle in nature. These issues, closely tied to infrastructure, reflect upon the work that we do at Sinfranova. As a sustainable infrastructure company that aims to address the shortcomings of climate change in an urban environment, we see the promotion of non-motorized transportation as an integral part of a greener future.

One of the hallmarks of our partnership with Trips for Kids was the unmistakable fact that children are the leaders of the next generation. Thus, such exposure to nature at an early age can give way to further education on a sustainable, low-waste lifestyle. Within a year of the funds raised, Trips for Kids have utilized Sinfranova's efforts by enhancing their
Learn + Earn programing. This six-week program aims to familiarize kids with bikes, and funds raised have helped to build its depth and reach. So far this year, 300 kids have graduated from this program. Sinfranova’s campaign efforts have gone directly to 13 kids of Tarrant County, TX. The cost of bikes, helmets, locks, lights, and shipping have been covered by our donors’ generous support. “We wish everyone could see the smiles on our youth when they complete this program and receive their bicycles. For many, this will be the first bicycle they ever receive. We are so grateful that Sinfranova believes in our programming and the work we are doing throughout the country,” shared RJ Heckelman, Trips for Kids Director of Partnerships and Resources.
Some of the SDGs aligned with this campaign are SDG 3: Good health and well-being and SDG 13: Climate Action
This campaign not only reflected Sinfranova’s goals regarding sustainable infrastructure but also our sustainable development objectives. Among some of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) aligned with this campaign are “SDG3: Good health and well-being” by promoting healthier habits and a more active lifestyle and “SDG13: Climate Action” by providing access to low-carbon transportation systems. SDGs play an important role in Sinfranova’s mission and interaction with our clientele. We aim to uphold these goals in every aspect of our projects.
The initiative with Trips for Kids proved to do exactly the same by promoting sustainability in every step of the campaign. The #PedalingfortheFuture campaign was a way for our company to engage with the community and give back. By reaching out to our networks and fundraising, we aimed to close the circle. We at Sinfranova understand that our work is never fully done unless we lift up the ones in need around us. We want to thank all of our supporters and donors that helped us raise funds for a very important cause. We know we could not have done it without your help and generosity.
