According to the survey "What Worries the World?" conducted by IPSOS in June, climate change is the seventh global concern, behind other topics such as inflation, crime & violence, poverty & social inequality, and unemployment. Similarly, results from the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) publication "People’s Climate Vote 2024" show that 53% of people globally said they were more worried about climate change than they were last year.
While both the overall level of worry and the severity of impacts caused by climate change increase worldwide, significant knowledge gaps still make it difficult to understand the magnitude of the climate crisis—which is the first step to taking action and building solutions.
In an effort to contribute to bridging this knowledge gap, Cristina Contreras, CEO & Founder of Sinfranova, led a pro-bono Climate Fresk workshop targeting 12 staff members of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). Cristina has vast experience providing courses related to sustainable infrastructure and other related topics and completed training to become a Climate Fresk workshop facilitator in 2023. That same year, she was appointed a voting member of ASME’s Committee on Sustainability in 2023. ASME, on the other hand, is committed to providing engineers and technical professionals with the tools and training needed to find and implement sustainable climate action.
About Climate Fresk
Climate Fresk is a collaborative workshop designed by the Climate Fresk NGO in 2018 to educate participants about the fundamental science behind climate change and inspire participants to identify high-impact climate actions. During the 3-hours in-person workshop, participants were guided through the intricacies of climate science, empowering them to become part of the solution. To do so in an interactive and easier-to-understand way, participants work together to connect different elements that represent the causes and consequences of climate change in a logical sequence, thus illustrating the cause-and-effect relationships that drive climate change. Then, participants work together to find collective solutions to the climate crisis.
In a world where climate change remains a pressing yet often misunderstood issue, spreading climate literacy is crucial to empower individuals with the knowledge and understanding needed to take informed action and drive sustainable solutions for our planet’s present and future. At Sinfranova, we are firmly committed to doing our part in inspiring and equipping people and companies to become catalysts for positive social and environmental change.
